Black don’t crack? Who lied and told you that?! The key to keeping your skin healthy and in tip-top shape is to make sure you are keeping it protected with a sunscreen! I know that a lot of times we would forego the sunscreen because that white residue wasn’t worth it but those days are over! Just because we have darker skin tones doesn’t mean we have to live without protection! There are a lot more Black girl friendly sunscreens out on the market and it’s like…finally lol! Here are 5 Black girl friendly sunscreens I’ve been loving.
5 Black Girl Friendly Sunscreens
Black Girl Sunscreen
Well of course I had to start this list off with this one! This Black owned business (check out some other Black owned skincare brands I love here) was started in 2016 for Black women to have a chance to protect their skin with zero cast. The sunscreen is very nourishing with avocado, jojoba, carrot juice, cacao and sunflower oil to help soothe skin and even out your complexion. This is a SPF 30 which is the minimum your sunscreen should be!
Bolden SPF 30 Brightening Moisturizer
Another Black owned business that I have been enjoying! Bolden’s SPF contains Vitamin C as we all know is a heavy hitter to help brighten the skin and fade away the signs of sun damage. It also contains squalene to help with roughness, flaking and fine lines and safflower oil to help combat dryness.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen
I bought the mini version of this to see how much I like it and I love it! The texture reminds me of a primer so I feel like this sunscreen would be perfect under makeup, especially if you have oily skin. But this sunscreen can definitely be worn by all skin types! It’s totally invisible, fragrance free and very light weight. This is a SPF 40.
Glossier Invisible Shield
It’s described as a water-gel and it really reminds me of a serum, like my skin just drinks it UP. It absorbs into the skin beautifully and it does have a faint scent so if you are sensitive to fragrance I think you will be okay (unless you’re like extremely sensitive). Apply this and then the Glossier Futuredew and *chef kiss* your skin shining (and being protected) in the best ways possible. This is a SPF 35.
Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Okay, I know I said Glossier was IT, but Ms. Fenty, Ms. Fenty be showing out, as always. The Hydra Vizor ingredients include niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, baobab and Kalahari melon to help hydrate skin. It smells like melon, so if you are fragrant sensitive, this is definitely not for you. I enjoy that this can be used as a moisturizer as well so it can be your complete last step in your routine. It leaves your skin feeling really soft and brightened and I love that it is refillable! Extra stars for bomb packaging!
Sun protection is imperative to keep our darker skin cancer free, prevent premature aging and reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation. These Black girl friendly sunscreens will stay in my rotation this year but I’d love to add to the collection! What are some of the sunscreens you’ve been enjoying?
